As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to mark the 2021 International Day of the rural women, Prof. Senator Oserheimen A Osunbor has said that every rural women should be given the opportunity to harness and realise their full potentials in life.

Prof. Senator Oserheimen A Osunbor stated this in Abuja on thursday in his goodwill message to commemorate this year's International Day of the rural Women.

Prof. Senator Oserheimen A Osunbor described the International Day of Rural Women as a day set aside to recognize and celebrate the critical role and contributions of rural women, including indigenous women, in enhancing agricultural and rural development, improving food security and eradicating rural poverty.

He explained that It is purposely held the day before World Food Day, in order to highlight the role played by rural women in food production and food security.

In many of the countries in the world, women play a vital role in the rural economy.

They are involved in crop production and livestock care, provide food, water and fuel for their families, and carry out other activities to diversify their families’ livelihood.

Women are a force to reckon with when it comes to driving the industrial sector of a nation's political economy.

Without their pivotal inputs, the necessary raw materials to breastfeed the nation's factories and industries will come to a definite halt.

They are so crucial to the extend that they are the first resources to consider when it comes to capacity building and youth entrepreneural development and cultural orientation.

Thus, they are worth the recognition and acknowledgement, no matter how great it could be portrayed.
