The evolving trend in most parts of the world is for tested technocrats to adorn the garb of politics, after serving humanity in different capacities. 
Engr.Dr.Osaro Odiase JP made this assertion when having interview with newsmen. 

He highlighted some of the qualities that the candidate Edo Central would produce for the 2024 governorship seat should have.

Firstly, he defined the word technocracy for the purpose of enlightenment as coined by W.H. Smyth in 1919 to mean ‘ management of society by technical expert’.

Simply put, a technocrat can be defined as an individual usually in leadership position who makes decision based solely on technical information. 

A technocrat sticks to scientific approach to public policy issues and he is not swayed by extraneous considerations, be they political or otherwise.

The technocrat acquires skills and competence through training and experience.

Engr. Dr. Osaro Odiase JP also reflected on the national question, saying the solution to insecurity does not lie in state police but community police.

He said the choice of Edo Governor from Edo Central in 2024 should be shaped by four factors.

These factors, in the JP’s view, are courage of conviction, ability to restore security, capacity for management of diversity and equity.

He also emphasised courage as a criterion for fitness to rule, saying:”A clear capacity to be zealously affected in a good matter and to lead with courage and foresight in the pursuit of the overall best interests of the people.”

On security, which has been a major challenge in the last one decade, Engr.Dr. Osaro Odiase emphasised that proven ability to enforce security, unity and peace in a large territory with a difficult terrain should be considered.

He added,' Clear records in successfully managing diversity which is where most post-independence leaders of Nigeria have failed must be given real attention.

He also identified equity as a factor. 

He pointed out that the Governor slot should go to Edo Central District to allow equity in the political space of Edo State.


He further stated that as the preparations for Edo Central 2024 governorship agitation gather steam in Edo State, the appealing story of Barrack Obama’s gradual rise from obscurity to leadership through the road of community service, grassroots engagements, and superlative legislative activities in America’s senate has found expression in some political leaders in Edo State, especially from Edo Central whose sojourn both in life and public service shows striking resemblance of Obama’s odyssey.

He added being energetic, visionary, well educated, experienced, possessing leadership skills, and a genuine love for community service should ordinarily form some of the basic qualifications for leadership even in the political space.


For how long shall we remain in the wilderness of underdevelopment?

For how long shall we grope and not reach our destination as a developed nation?

An overwhelming number of technocrats and activists are ever conscious of their hard earned reputations and would embark on measures that will stop mindless corruption in their states. 

This will enable them have enough resources for development.

Technocrats also have the leadership skills and managerial acumen to manage resources. 

They are turn-around experts who usually inspire development wherever they work.

There is no doubt that some states are making progress that is quite visible and appreciated, but we need to accelerate the pace now .

The geographical location of Edo State in Nigeria has given it a gorgeous economic advantage which any candidate Edo Central will produce for the 2024 governorship election must major on.
